What You’ll Learn

If your student is in AP Chemistry, you’ve probably wondered what you can do to help them master the material. With the lowest participation rate of any Advanced Placement test, help your student be prepared to ace the final exam by using our tutors. AP Chemistry is one of the Advanced Placement courses available to high school students. As the name suggests, it focuses on chemistry-related subjects in a more in-depth way than a traditional high school chemistry course.

  • Elements
  • Properties of materials
  • Atomic structure
  • Orientation of atoms
  • Molecules
  • Rates of reactions
  • Molecular collisions
  • Formation of Bonds
  • Conditions and external forces

Advanced Placement courses are difficult for many high school students as they are roughly the equivalent of college level courses. Working with our AP Chemistry tutors is a great way to prepare your student to succeed at the material and do well on the AP exam at the end of the year. This test is scaled on a score from 1 to 5, and your student’s score will determine if they receive college credit from their given university for it.

Benefits of Working with an AP Chemistry Tutor

One of the major benefits of working with an AP Chemistry tutor is that your student is able to move through the coursework at their own pace. With so much material to cover in the course, high school teachers generally have to move at a rapid pace.

If they fail to cover a topic, there is no telling if it will come up on the test, potentially affecting everyone’s scores. Moving at this rate can be to your student’s detriment, especially if they have not mastered earlier skills before moving on to more intense subjects. Working with one of our tutors allows your student to move at a comfortable pace: if they need more time to review the material, our tutors can assist them in going more in-depth into the subject. If your student is advancing and getting bored, our tutors are able to challenge them with new knowledge and problems, finding the right pace for each student.

Advanced Placement courses are difficult for many high school students as they are roughly the equivalent of college level courses. This test is scaled on a score from 1 to 5, and your student’s score will determine if they receive college credit from their given university for it. Obviously, doing well on the material can help them save money in college by having some of their courses taken care of, but it also gives them a leg up on understanding how college level courses are taught and scored.

Working with one of our qualified tutors will help your student cover all of the material they need at a rate that is best for their learning style. Rather than being locked into the speed of the rest of the classroom, your student gets to move along as they master the topics. In addition, your student has the flexibility to spend more time learning about topics that are of a particular interest to them or that is particularly worrisome before the big test.

As an example of what our AP Chemistry tutors can do, if your student needs to focus on data analysis and what the evidence is trying to point out, one of our tutors is able to help. They can provide your student with different data sets to use as examples and prepare for the test, getting the opportunity to analyze the data and interpret it with the tutor. If they want to see real world examples, your student’s tutor can provide connections between chemistry studies and experiments with real world findings.

The AP Chemistry Final Exam

As your student works with their AP Chemistry tutor, one of the things they are probably studying for is the final exam. This is an intensive test that takes several hours to complete. Even more worrisome for many students is that the multiple choice section of the test has to be completed without the use of a calculator.

In addition to the multiple choice portion of the test, there is a free response section that involves long and short answers. Your student’s AP Chemistry tutor can help prepare them for writing long-form answers and help shore up their writing skills as a part of their tutoring sessions. As your student works with their tutor, they can get a feel for the test material and be prepared to tackle it without worries.

Obviously, doing well on the material can help them save money in college by having some of their courses taken care of, but it also gives them a leg up on understanding how college level courses are taught and scored. Students taking this course should have successfully completed their high school chemistry course, as well as Algebra II. Higher math levels are not required for the coursework. Topics covered in the course include things such as atomic theory and types of reactions.
