Studying GCSE Physics: Energy

This topic seeks to define and bring a deeper understanding of the concept of energy. Energy is the capacity with which work is done. The theme also explores the different types of energy. These types of energy include potential, kinetic, thermal, electrical, nuclear and chemical energy, among others. The topic explores all these elements and types of power, how they work and all that pertains to them. The development, the destruction and the aspects of energy are also covered.

Electricity

The concept of electricity is associated with stationary or moving charges and their elementary particles. While studying the topic of Electricity for GCSE Physics, students have to explore areas such as electro statistics, the coulomb’s law, static electricity, and electrical energy. Other areas include current, voltage and resistance, electrical power, resistors, lamps, diodes, electrical safety, and uses of electricity.

Particle Model of Matter

The particle model of matter is used to explain and bring an understanding of the arrangement of particles in the three states of matter. In this topic, the elements of the three states of matter (solid, liquid and gas) are discussed. Some of the other problems in this area include the properties of solids that make them hard to break. Also covered in the subject are the properties of liquids, and changes that occur from one state of matter to the next. The topic also answers why gases are hard to contain and ways you can beat this problem. Generally, this topic covers all the areas of the three states of matter.

Atomic Structure

The structure of an atom includes a positively charged nucleus that is surrounded and neutralized by negatively charged electrons. The electrons revolve around the orbits at different distances relative to the nucleus. This topic covers the structure of the atom. Under the structure of an atom, the topic looks further into the structure of the nucleus, its constitution and the structure of electrons.

Forces

A force is a push or a pull acting upon an object as a result of the object’s interaction with other objects. There are different types of forces that are discussed in this topic. Such forces include; frictional forces, tension, normal, air resistance, applied and spring forces (contact forces). Other forces include Gravity, electrical and magnetic forces (action-at-a-distance forces). The topic explores all these types of forces individually and in-depth. Force measurement is also an area discussed in this topic. Theories relating to the different kinds of forces are also explored.

Magnetism & Electromagnetism

Magnetism is a concept in physics about the idea of magnetic forces. Magnetism goes hand in hand. An electromagnet is a piece of wire that generates magnetic fields through the passage of electricity. All these concepts are discussed in depth in GCSE Physics.

Waves

Waves are oscillations that are accompanied by a transfer of energy. The energy travels through space or mass. There are different types of waves that are responsible for every form of communication that we use. There are three main types of waves in Physics. They are mechanical waves, electromagnetic and matter waves. Under mechanical waves, there are longitudinal and transverse waves. Other concepts relating to waves include wavelength, crests, amplitude, troughs and cycle. All these elements are discussed in this topic.

Space Physics

Space Physics is a branch of physics that deals with the study of plasmas as they naturally occur in the atmosphere of the earth and within the solar system. GCSE students study this concept in depth.
